Children incorporated the contest theme, "Healthy Smiles Are Always In Style," into their artwork.
"This is a great way for the local children to become aware of their own dental health, while doing something fun," said Sandra Ferguson, dental hygienist at the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center. "Every year we get more and more student participation which is wonderful."
Five out of the twelve schools in Adair County participated in this year’s event totaling 101 children’s entries.
The top two winners of this years contest were Erik Bunch of Dahlonegah, and Alyssa Funberg, of Zion.
"This was the first year that our class participated in this contest," said Lisa Hines, Zion teacher. "We learned about cleaning your teeth and keeping them clean. Everyone also was able to share their favorite ways to clean their teeth."
A special prize was awarded to each winner with donations from Mr. B’s Pizza and Wal-Mart. All participants received a certificate of appreciation for their participation, as well as a bag of "goodies."
The winning artwork will be displayed during the month of February at the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center.
