TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee Nation Enterprises (CNE) has recently assumed responsibility for the management and operation of Cherokee Trails Golf Club, located on State Highway 62 south of Tahlequah. CNE is in the process of developing a plan to improve the course, which will include greens, tee boxes, irrigation system as well as improvements to the clubhouse and maintenance shop.Golf course architect Tripp Davis and Associates out of Norman will design improvements while Mid-American Golf will perform renovation work on the course. CNE used the same professional golf course architect and course builder to renovate the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa. Jeff Jarrett, manager of the Catoosa Golf Club, will oversee all Cherokee Trails renovations.
"We’re in the planning stages at this point," Jarrett said. "It’s going to be a tremendous improvement over its current condition. I like our architect and builder. They did a phenomenal job in Catoosa and they’ll do a phenomenal job on Cherokee Trails."
During the renovations, Cherokee Trails will be closed to the public, beginning Friday, Feb. 6. Assuming favorable weather conditions, it is likely the course will open for play in the fall of 2004.
"We are looking forward to providing Tahlequah and Cherokee citizens in Northeastern Oklahoma with a golf experience that also adds value, beauty, and recreation to the numerous other attractions already available in area," said David Stewart, CEO of CNE.
CNE employs more than 1100 people in northeastern Oklahoma and operates Class II Gaming facilities in Roland, West Siloam Springs, Catoosa and Fort Gibson as well as convenience stores, smoke shops, a gift shop and a recently renovated golf course in Catoosa.
