PARK HILL, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah, OK. was filmed in early December by a Saudi Arabian television network in an attempt to raise awareness of America’s cultural heritage. Louay Khraish, producer of "Bayne el Wilayat," a weekly television magazine, filmed the center’s attractions and conducted interviews focusing on Cherokee history and culture. The show is viewed by an estimated 20 million Saudis.

"We believe that the Saudi audience will be very interested in learning about a side of America that is rarely shown in the media," said Khraish.

The weekly 25-minute show is made up of three feature reports from different locations in America. The program is aimed at Saudi viewers and deals with diverse human interest, style, social, medical, scientific and travel issues.
"The program is light," said Khraish, "yet it is a dynamic program that tackles subjects that will shed a positive light on America to the Saudi audience."
The Cherokee Heritage Center segment focuses on the Ancient Village, a replica of a Cherokee village as it would have appeared before European contact. The segment will also feature numerous aspects of Cherokee culture such as clothing, crafts, games and food.
"We believe that the Cherokee Heritage Center and the Tsa La Gi Ancient Village will not only reflect a positive image of America, but will also highlight one of its endearing historical and cultural symbols, as well as encourage our affluent Saudi viewers to visit Oklahoma," said Khraish.
The segment is scheduled to air in January 2005 on Saudi TV. Saudi TV is the national television station of Saudi Arabia with four networks covering the entire Kingdom, and is managed by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.
