TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Running fast, must run in their family. Sequoyah High School (SHS) students, Michael and Sarah Holcomb, of Vian, finished first in the boys and girls regional cross-country competitions, making them the first brother-sister duo to hold regional championship titles.

"It feels pretty good," said Sarah Holcomb, 15, who also finished first in the state cross-country competition, earning the state championship title. "I never expected that I would be number one."
The Holcombs, along with the other SHS cross-country team members, train daily.
"We do distance one day and speed the next," Sarah Holcomb said. "I like distance more because you can run at your own pace."
Sarah says she has been inspired by her older brother, Michael, who has been on the SHS cross-country team for two years.
"He pushes me," Sarah Holcomb said.
"My dad always told us about how he ran cross-country and how he liked it," said Michael Holcomb, 18. "I tried it and I've loved it ever since."
The Holcomb's are citizens of the Cherokee Nation and are both members of the SHS Cherokee Language Bowl team. They are the children of Sherry and Mitch Holcomb.
