TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – As part of the 52nd Cherokee National Holiday festivities, the Cherokee Nation will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 4, at the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, which is located 3.5 miles south of Tahlequah, Oklahoma on Highway 62.“The open house gives local and out of state visitors an opportunity to view the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex,” said Sandy Houston, coordinator of the open house event. “It’s a chance to come in, cool off, relax and visit with friends and relatives for a few minutes.”
The snack bar and restrooms in the new Cherokee Nation Financial Resource Center will also be open during the open house.
Display booths will be set up throughout the building to display Cherokee Nation program information, as well as a pictorial tribute to tribal history. Cherokee Nation employees will also be available to answer questions.
The Cherokee Choir will provide entertainment and refreshments will be served. The event is open and free to the public.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in commemoration of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. It has grown into one of the largest events in Oklahoma, attracting 90,000 people from across the world. People see old friends and make new ones while enjoying the many activities the Holiday offers.
