TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The annual Cherokee National Holiday cornstalk shoot will be held west of the tribal complex on Saturday, September 4, and Sunday, September 5, at 8 a.m. each day. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The different categories of competition are youth, 10 to 12 years old; youth, under 9 years of age; Indian bow; recurve bow; and compound bow. There is also a new event this year called the Traditional Primitive Shoot. The entry fee for recurve and compound is $7 per person. First place winners from each division will receive a trophy.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in commemoration of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. It has grown into one of the largest events in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 people from across the world.
