TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - A co-ed volleyball tournament is one of the many events that participants can enjoy as part of the 52nd Cherokee National Holiday. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 4 and will be held west of the Cherokee Nation complex located four miles south of Tahlequah on highway 62.
“We usually get some very good teams in our tournament,” said Tera Shows, volleyball tournament coordinator. “It’s a chance for everyone to get together and have some good fun and enjoy some good competition.”
Team entry fee is $70 and the deadline for entry is Monday, August 30. The Cherokee Nation will award prizes for first, second, third and fourth place. Tournament is limited to the first 16 paid teams and teams are encouraged to register early to secure a spot in the tournament.

This year’s Cherokee National Holiday begins Friday, September 3, and runs through Monday, September 5. The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in commemoration of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. It has grown into one of the largest events in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 people from across the world. This year’s theme, “The Spirit of the Trail,” celebrates the enduring spirit of the Cherokee people, past, present and future.
