TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Ami Vice, of Lisbon Falls, Maine, is gearing up to compete in the Miss America pageant in September. Although her home address is in Maine, this Cherokee woman has Oklahoma ties. Vice currently wears the title of “Miss Maine,” but as a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma she spends a lot of time in crimson and cream.

“I just always wanted to go there,” Vice said of her alma mater. “My granddad went there and, I was able to get an out-of-state tuition waiver that made it possible.”
As a contestant for the Miss America crown, Vice has chosen higher education access and assistance as her platform.
“I chose it because of my personal experience,” Vice said. “I didn’t know how I was going to go to college and I took a leap of faith and was able to get scholarships and it worked out. I have a great story and I have a lot to share with youth.”
Vice has spent most the summer preparing for the September competition in hopes of bringing home the crown.
“I’ve been working out a lot and practicing for my interview, taking voice lessons and shopping,” Vice said.
The Miss America pageant will air on ABC television September 18, at 8:00 p.m Central. (Check with your local ABC network for air times.)
