TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA — The Cherokee Nation recently held the annual Little Miss and Mister Cherokee contest as part of the 52nd Annual Cherokee National Holiday. The judges chose winners based on traditional dress, Cherokee knowledge, personality and poise.

“I enjoyed seeing each contestant in their traditional dress and the knowledge our future generation has of our (Cherokee) heritage,” said Joyce Bunch, contest coordinator. “With children like these our future looks great.”
The winner of the Little Miss Cherokee competition in the 3- and 4-year-old division is Serena Jones of Tahlequah. Jones, 4, is the daughter of Vanessa Jones. First runner-up is Chelbie Raye Turtle of Tahlequah. Turtle, 3, is the daughter of Lisa Trice-Turtle. The second runner-up is Skylar Glass also of Tahlequah. Glass, 3, is the daughter of Waylon and Lisa Glass. The winner of the Little Mister Cherokee competition for the 3- and 4-year-old division is Justin Michael Sierra, of Tahlequah. Sierra, 4, is the son of Alicia Sierra. The first runner-up is Nathan Kirk of Proctor. Kirk, 3, is the son of Jennifer Kirk. The second runner-up is Joshua Feeling of Pryor. Feeling, 4, is the son of D. Jacklyn Ferguson and Jim Kingfisher.
The winner of the Little Miss Cherokee competition in the 5-, 6- and 7-year-old division is Raelie Grayson of Tahlequah. Grayson, 5, is the daughter of Noel and Carrie Grayson. The first runner-up is Morgan Terrance of Welling. Terrence, 7, is the daughter of Jack and Kim Terrance. The second runner-up is Callie Rain Thompson of Hulbert. Thompson, 7, is the daughter of Tim and Stephanie Thompson. The winner of the Little Mister Cherokee competition for the 5-, 6- and 7-year-old division is Parker Star Weavel of Tahlequah. Weavel, 7, is the son of Tonia Weavel. The first runner-up is Jaleel Dwayne Fields of Twin Oaks. Fields, 7, is the son of Natasha Fields. The second runner-up is Brandon (B.J.) Keith O’Field of Park Hill. O’Field, 5, is the son of Brandon O’Field.
The winner of the Little Miss Cherokee competition in the 8-, 9- and 10-year-old division is Taylor Goff of Sallisaw. Goff is the daughter of Mika Goff. The first runner-up is Natalie Mulholland of Tahlequah. Mulholland, 10, is the daughter of Kelly Hatley. The second runner-up is Shauntell Marie Mathis of Hulbert. Mathis, 10, is the daughter of Tricia Donnell. The winner of the Little Mister Cherokee competition in the 8-, 9- and 10-year-old division is Trey Noe of Oaks. Noe, 10, is the son of Rachel Russell.
The winner of the Little Miss Cherokee competition in the 11-, 1-2 and 13-year-old division is Jade Hansen of Jay. Hansen, 13, is the daughter of Woody and Joyce Hansen. The first runner-up is Rozlyn Hana Locust of Stilwell. Locust, 11, is the daughter of Charles and Brenda Locust. The second runner-up is Jessica White-Braymer of Tahlequah. White-Braymer, 11, is the granddaughter of Pearl Braymer. The winner of the Little Mister Cherokee competition in the 11-, 12- and 13-year-old division is Chad Russell of Tahlequah. Russell, 13, is the son of Billie Pumpkin. The first runner-up is Jonathan White Braymer also of Tahlequah. Braymer, 13, is the grandson of Pearl Braymer. The second runner-up is Johnny Wayne Christie of Sallisaw. Christie, 11, is the son of Larry and Tina Christie.
