As part of the 52nd Cherokee National Holiday, the Cherokee Nation will host two golf tournaments, a scramble and an individual golf tournament.
The golf scramble will be held on Friday, September 3. The golf scramble will consist of four-man teams and run on a best ball format. Each team will consist of one “A” player, one “B” player, one “C” player and one “D” player. Registration for the golf scramble opens at 8 a.m. Teams will be drawn after the registration period closes and players will tee off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three teams. The total payout will depend upon the total number of entries. Entry fee is $30 per person and includes the green fee, but not cart rental or food and beverages.
There will also be long drive and closest to the pin competitions. Entry into these competitions will be $1 each. The winner will take the cash pot. Entry into the tournament will be limited to the first 150 golfers.
The individual golf tournament is Sunday, September 5. Qualifying rounds will be played all-day on Saturday, September 4.
The tournament entry fee will be $55. Entry will be limited to the first 144 registrants.
“This will be the best tournament yet,” said Larry Pritchett, coordinator for the golf tournament.
The tournament will consist of two 18-hole rounds and will include, A, B, C and D flights, as well as seniors’ division (55 and older). Entry fee will cover two greens fees, the tournament entry fee and lunch on Sunday.
Cash prizes will be awarded for each flight and senior’s division. First place receives $500, second place receives $300, third place receives $150, and fourth place receives $55.
“We’re paying out bigger cash prizes this year,” Pritchett said. “This is the first year the tournament will be played on an 18-hole golf course.”
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in commemoration of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. It has grown into one of the largest events in Oklahoma, attracting 90,000 people from across the world. People see old friends and make new ones while enjoying the many activities the Holiday offers. This year’s theme, “The Spirit of the Trail,” celebrates the enduring spirit of the Cherokee people, past, present and future.
