TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation currently has funding available to assist communities with projects such as community buildings, ballparks, and walking trails. Community-based organizations that are administered by Cherokee citizens are invited to submit proposals for funding consideration“This isn’t federal money so there are no restrictions,” said Don Greenfeather, director of community development for the Cherokee Nation. “We just want to know what types of projects the communities would like to have and would be willing to work on. Our goal is to strengthen communities. We want to create cohesiveness and get people working together.”
Proposals must include specific plans for spending the money for the benefit of the community. All projects must demonstrate a community purpose and Cherokee citizens must actively participate, contribute, and make decisions as a group.
The Cherokee Nation will hold community work project informational meetings in Tulsa, Tahlequah, Sallisaw, Muskogee, Oak Hill Piney, and Briggs, but all communities in the Cherokee Nation’s jurisdictional area may apply. For more information about deadline dates, how to obtain an application or to schedule an informational meeting, contact Greenfeather, phone: 918-431-4177 or 918-453-5935.
