TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Raven Sue Bruner, 18, of Stilwell, was crowned Miss Cherokee at the State of the Nation Address during the 51st annual Cherokee National Holiday. "I want to talk to youth about my platform, which is respect", Bruner said. "This is an area that needs to be addressed with our youth. The respect just isn’t there anymore."

Bruner is the daughter of Reba and the late Garland Bruner of Stilwell. She is a former Junior Miss Cherokee, a representative on the Cherokee Nation Youth Council and the executive committee secretary for the United National Indian Tribal Youth Council. She is knowledgeable in Cherokee culture and passes on her knowledge through storytelling. The 2003 Stilwell High School graduate is now attending Northeastern State University where she has chosen to major in pharmacy.
"We just ask for everyone’s prayers and support for this year", said Reba Bruner, Raven’s mother. "She’s representing the people and just wants to do them proud."
"I’m looking forward to this year", Raven Bruner said. "I’ve been Miss Cherokee for three weeks and it’s been really good so far. I hope the rest of the year goes as good as this three weeks has gone."
As Miss Cherokee, Bruner will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Cherokee Nation. First runner-up, Amanda Chair, 21, of Tahlequah, will receive a $2000 scholarship and second runner-up, Nicole Squirrel, 22, of Tulsa will receive a $1000 scholarship.
