TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation will hold a meeting in order for Cherokee citizens to examine and appraise the 2003 Indian Community Development Block Grant application. Information will be available concerning the amounts of funds available for proposed community development and housing activities and the range of activities that may be undertaken. Citizens may give their views on community development and housing needs. The meeting will also afford citizens an opportunity to review and comment on the Nation’s performance under any active community development block grant. The meeting will be held on September 11, at 6:00 p.m. in the Tribal Council Chambers at the Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex on U.S. Hwy. 62 south of Tahlequah.
The Cherokee Nation’s community development program emphasizes community work and self-help projects that meet community needs and that utilize and build the capacity of communities to become self-sufficient places where future generations will want to live. This may be done through community building, housing, public service, infrastructure, or economic development projects. The participation of communities in the design and development of projects is highly encouraged. The current priority projects are community buildings in which the Cherokee Nation provides materials and technical assistance and communities provide the labor and organization to maintain and operate the buildings.
Citizens are encouraged to comment on this community development statement at this meeting. Please contact Nancy Scott, phone: 918-456-0671 (extension 2259) for more information.
