The Greasy community building under construction.
GREASY, OKLAHOMA - Thanks to the Cherokee Nation and the willing hands of community volunteers, the Greasy community will soon have a community building that will be utilized in many different ways.

The Cherokee Nation self-help program gives funding to communities to purchase materials to build community buildings and the community is then responsible for the construction of the building. All labor on the community building is strictly volunteer work.

"The self-help projects of the Cherokee Nation allow the community to get together and make decisions that influence their community", said Charlie Soap, community consultant for the Cherokee Nation. "They decide how the community building will look and what it will be used for."

"This is going to be the Cadillac of community buildings", said Rick King, electrical contractor for the Cherokee Nation. "There is going to be a stage in the back for bands or plays, a big kitchen and dining area, two bathrooms, and a reception area."

"It’s going to be a great place for the community to get together", said Levi Keehler of the Greasy community.

"The self-help program helps community members build pride in their community and the heritage of the Cherokee Nation", said Don Greenfeather, construction manager for the Cherokee Nation.

The Greasy community building is currently under construction and will be completed in several months.
