CHEROKEE, NORTH CAROLINA - The Cherokee Renegades, a women’s slowpitch softball team, recently won the 2003 Native American World Tournament at Cherokee, North Carolina. The Renegades went undefeated throughout the tournament, defeating an Eastern Band Cherokee team and three Florida Seminole teams.

The Renegades team is comprised of Cherokee women from Tahlequah, Kenwood, Westville, and Stilwell, Oklahoma. Team members are Teila Kirk, Andrea Cochran, Tricia Six, Dawn Davis, Mary HorseChief, Amber Hooper, Grace Mouse-Fuentes, Eugenia Hawkins, Janice Pettit, Amy Teehee, Paula Soap, and Lynetta Glory. Players who made the all-tournament team were Teila Kirk, Tricia Six, Eugenia Hawkins, Dawn Davis, Mary HorseChief, Amber Hooper, and Amy Teehee. Danny Teehee coaches the team. The team also won the 2003 Cherokee National Holiday tournament.
The team plans to return to Cherokee next year to defend their title.
