TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation, in cooperation with WorkForce Partners, will sponsor a job fair for businesses and job seekers in Cherokee County Wednesday, October 29 at Indian Capital Technology Center, located in the Tahlequah Industrial Park."Anyone who is looking for a job or wanting a different type of job should plan on attending", said Stephanie Sharp, Cherokee Nation Career Services manager.
WorkForce Partners will be presenting workshops for new and existing businesses about tax incentives, unemployment claims, job referrals, and other services for businesses. WorkForce Partners is a group of various Cherokee County businesses, including Tahlequah Mayor Jerry Cook, Tahlequah Industrial Authority, Cherokee County WorkForce Investment Board, Tahlequah City Council, Northeastern State University (NSU), NSU Rural Economic Development Center, Indian Capital Technology Center, T.I.P.S., WorkForce Oklahoma, QUESST, Cherokee Nation, Eastern WorkForce Development Board, Employment Security Commission, and Talking Leaves Job Corps. These businesses have pooled their resources to provide a basis for growth and expansion in the area. The workshops will be offered from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Job seekers are invited to attend from 1:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. to view exhibits and displays from area businesses and fill out job applications. "American Woodmark, Lifeline Communications, and several area banks will have booth at the job fair", Sharp said. "One of the Cherokee Nation initiatives is to further economic development for the people in our community. Helping to organize a job fair is one way to further this initiative."
