TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation website is offering a free 8-week on-line Cherokee language class to the public.

Registration for the on-line language class will begin Friday, October 17 and classes will begin October 28. There will be two classes available and they will both be in session for eight weeks. Class time will be either 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays or 2-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class size is limited to 40 students per class and you must be registered on the Cherokee Nation web site, www.cherokee.org, to sign up for class.

Several Cherokee fluent instructors will teach the Cherokee language class, from both the Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource Center and within the community. The lessons will start off at a basic level, teaching the Cherokee sounds and vocabulary words. Quizzes and polls will also be incorporated into the on-line classes. By the end of the eight-week class, students will be able to build basic sentences. The instructors will also utilize video, slides and chat to allow interaction between the students and instructors.
