TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation Council approved a $200,000 appropriation to the Cherokee Heritage Center during a reconvened meeting Wednesday night.

The original fiscal year 2004 budget did not include a line item for the Heritage Center, as it had in the past. The Council voted 10-2 to send the money to the Heritage Center for operational expenses. The Council voiced support for the mission of the Heritage Center in appropriating the funds.

"Everyone that works at the Heritage Center does it for love", said Mary Ellen Meredith, director of the Heritage Center.

The Heritage Center funding was the only item on the agenda for the meeting. The entire reconvened October Cherokee Nation Council meeting can be seen on the Cherokee Nation’s web site.

The next regular scheduled Council meeting is set for November 10, at 6 p.m., in the Tribal Council Chambers at the W.W. Keeler Complex.
