The cover of the Cherokee National Youth Choir’s latest CD, Jesus Is Born Today.

NASHVILLE, OKLAHOMA - For the second year in a row, the Cherokee National Youth Choir has won the top award for best 'Gospel/Christian Recording' at the Native American Music Awards. The Youth Choir received the honor for their second album, Building One Fire, in ceremonies for the Sixth Annual NAMMY Awards, held on November 15, at the Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Building One Fire was nominated this year in the categories of "Album of the Year" and best "Gospel/Christian Recording." The choir's first album, 'Voices of The Creator's Children', featuring Rita Coolidge, also took the trophy for the best Gospel/Christian Recording," at the Native American Music Awards, in 2002.

"We are extremely proud of the Cherokee National Youth Choir and their NAMMY win", said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "It's great that these kids can be honored in this way for the work they are doing in helping to preserve the Cherokee culture. Their voices inspire many people and I'm glad that they have been recognized for that."
