TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Researching family history has now become more convenient thanks to the numerous forms of technology available, but more convenient does not always mean easier. The vast array of genealogical information found on the web can often be overwhelming for the technologically-challenged.The Cherokee Family Research Center, a division of the Cherokee Heritage Center, will host an Electronic Genealogy conference Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants of this conference will learn how to use the Internet, message boards, databases, software and other electronic means to conduct genealogical research and share genealogical information.
Featured speakers at this conference are Jered Burright, computer technician at the Cherokee Heritage Center, Tom Mooney, archivist at the Cherokee Heritage Center, and Barbara Meehan, CGRS, FTGS, TCCL Genealogy Center.
Meehan is a Genealogy Center library associate, editor and webmaster for the Tulsa Genealogical Society, and a certified genealogy records specialist with the Board for Certification Genealogists. She specializes in Oklahoma and Native American research.
The Electronic Genealogy conference will be held on the second floor of the Student Union at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. The registration fee for this conference is $20 for Cherokee National Historical Society members and $25 for non-members. Registration is limited.
