SPERRY, OKLAHOMA - Sperry community residents joined officials to show their appreciation for the completion of the Sperry Access Road construction project at ribbon cutting ceremonies on November 4 at the access road site.

"With financial hardships that city and county governments have suffered recently, it’s great that Cherokee Nation can step up to the plate and be a player", said Buel Anglen, Cherokee Nation Tribal Council member. “It’s a great partnership with the City of Sperry and Tulsa County."

The Sperry Access road was a joint effort between the Cherokee Nation and Tulsa County to provide safer travel for Sperry residents. The road is also used to access the new Sperry School bus barn and the new Sperry School. The road will lie between the old school and the new school.

"There was a one lane bridge that a school bus couldn’t cross", said Clara Anglen, Sperry resident. "Cherokee Nation and Tulsa County came in and widened it to two lanes."

"We appreciate the Cherokee Nation and Tulsa County for building the road", said Jerry Burd, Superintendent of Sperry Schools. "It’s a tremendous asset to Sperry School."

"The road is safer now for residents of both Osage and Tulsa counties", said Osage County Commissioner Scott Hilton.

"Tulsa County is proud to participate", said Tulsa County Commissioner Wilburn Collins. "It is an excellent addition to Sperry School."

"It’s a good cooperative effort between city, county and tribal government,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "We are always looking for other joint-venture projects."

Attending the ceremony were Cherokee Nation Deputy Chief Joe Grayson, Jr., Councilor Anglen, Principal Chief Smith, Superintendent Burd, Commissioner Collins, Commissioner Hilton and several members of the Sperry community.
