TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA -Cherokee Nation Talking Leaves Job Corps (TLJC) was recently granted continuing accreditation for their outstanding commitment to the betterment of their students. The accreditation, from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), was first awarded to Talking Leaves Job Corps in 1985."NCA CASI accreditation demonstrates that we are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation staffed by qualified educators", said Sueanne Freeman, academic supervisor at TLJC. "Accreditation is recognized across state lines, which not only eases the transfer process for students moving from one accredited school to another, but assures the community that the school is meeting regional, state, and national standards for quality education."
To earn accreditation, schools must meet NCA CASI’s quality standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school and implement a continuous school improvement plan that focuses on increasing student performance.
TLJC is also accredited by the State Department of Education as a diploma issuing special function high school. Students attending TLJC now have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma while learning a skill or trade.
