TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - 113 students from Sequoyah High School (SHS) recently made the Superintendent’s and Principal’s Honor Rolls for the first nine weeks of the school year."Every year I am amazed by our students, said Tony Pivec, SHS superintendent. "One group of students will raise the bar of expectations only to have the next year’s group to raise it a little higher."
The students who made the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, earning a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale were Bryan Allen, Nathaniel Barnoskie, Maresa Beason, Travis Bowell, Kellie Brown, Brian Buckhorn, Norma Carey, Rachel Chouteau, Kayleene Crawford, Todd Crow, Rahelle Dellinger, April Dickson, Ryan Doyeto, Zachary Goodrich, Tuscon Grigg, Julie Hensley, Kasper Holmes, Angela Hummingbird, Vanessa John, Samuel Jones, Steven Kammerzell, Amanda Little, Misty Mankiller, Deena Nez, Diana Onco, Kellen Quinton, Shawna Singleterry, Christopher Smith, Derrick Stanley, Jayme Steeley, Rhiannon Tafoya, Jon Teehee, Tiffany Teehee, and Tuesdae Young.

"This year’s student body is on track to take the school to yet another level academically", Pivec said.

"Home of the Indians!" Sequoyah High School is an Indian boarding school which originated in 1871 when the Cherokee National Council passed an act setting up an orphan asylum to take care of the many orphans that came out of the Civil War. Sequoyah High School's approximate 300 enrollment represents 42 tribes and 14 different states. Students are eligible to attend if they are members of federally recognized Indian tribes or one-fourth blood descendants of such members.
