TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The results of the Cherokee Nation’s 2003 General Election will be posted on the Cherokee Nation web site Saturday night with updates every five minutes.The election results on the web page, will update itself every five minutes with the latest election results. The results posted on the page will come directly from the Cherokee Nation Election Commission, but will be unofficial until certified by the Election Commission.
"We’re offering this as a service to tribal members and voters", said Keith Danner, who works on the Cherokee Nation web site. "Hopefully, the oldest the information on the page will be is five minutes."
For the convenience of Cherokee citizens, the updated election information will also be projected onto a screen in the O-si-yo Training Room, located behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees on Highway 62 south of Tahlequah.
Cherokee Nation General Election features four candidates for Principal Chief, four candidates for Deputy Chief and 53 candidates for the 15 Council seats. Races in which no candidate wins a seat outright will be decided in a July 26 runoff.
The Cherokee people will also be voting on a constitutional amendment to remove federal approval from future constitutional questions.
