TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Those interested in watching Tribal Council meetings of the Cherokee Nation can now do so from the comfort of their home. The Cherokee Nation website streams the monthly Tribal Council live on the second Monday, after the first Saturday of each month at 6:00 p.m."We (the Cherokee Nation website) want to empower the tribal citizens, both here and abroad, with information about their tribal government", said Tonia Williams, web manager for the Cherokee Nation. "This will encourage participation in the tribal government."
"Each computer must be equipped with Windows Media Player 7 or greater", said Ben Phillips, website technician for the Cherokee Nation. "That’s pretty much the only requirement."
Website visitors can also access the council meetings after they are over.
"An archived version of the council meeting will be available on the website a week after the live feed", Phillips said.
The website address is http://www.cherokee.org. The next council meeting will be on Monday, June 16. The May 12 council meeting is already archived on the website.
