SALLISAW, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation will be celebrating National Women’s Health Week in Sequoyah County."We hope to make women aware of the importance of getting regular health screenings", said Julie Erb, director of the Cherokee Nation Cancer Programs.
The first annual Women’s Health Day will include a full day of activities at the Sallisaw Civic Center from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15.
"Activities will include an information booth, free blood pressure and blood sugar checks and plenty of door prizes", said Shannon Qualls, cancer case manager for the Cherokee Nation Redbird Smith Health Center. "We will also have on hand a representative from the Reynold’s Cancer Support House and Curves Fitness for Women."
The Cherokee Nation Cancer Grants Program and the Redbird Smith Health Center are sponsoring this event. The Cherokee Nation Cancer Program also has an information booth set up in the center of the W.W. Keeler complex in Tahlequah.
"We are encouraging all females to educate themselves about cancer screening, heart disease, diabetes and other general health issues", Erb said.
