TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Seventeen Sequoyah High School students were recently inducted into the Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society at a banquet held at the Clarion Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

Inductees were Ashley Benitez, Ah-nee Christie, Todd Crow, April Dickson, Venessa Gonzales, Kasper Holmes, Bonita Carey, Amanda Little, Nate Barnsokie, Kryste Benge, Robert Conrad, Candice Carey, Yanasa Charcoal, Lisa Chouteau, Jonathan Crittenden, Eric Marshall, and Whitney Warrior.

The Oklahoma Council for Indian Education selects the students for membership based on their outstanding academic achievements. The Oklahoma Council for Indian Education is an advocacy group whose purpose is to promote and enhance education and culture for American Indian students in the state of Oklahoma and to create awareness within the state of the significance of its American Indian citizens.

"We're really proud of these young men and women", said Tony Pivec, SHS superintendent. "This year's inductees, as well as our current members, read like a who's who list of future leaders."
