TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Sequoyah High School (SHS) will host an academic awards banquet on Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sequoyah High School cafeteria.

"This banquet acknowledges the best and brightest students that Sequoyah has", said Maxine Campbell, academic banquet chair. "I hope this will continue as an annual event."

"Having an awards banquet instead of an assembly makes the event a little more special and helps stress the importance we place on academic excellence at SHS", said Tony Pivec, SHS superintendent.

SHS administration and faculty will present awards to the students, based on academic achievement. The SHS gifted and talented program will make presentations to students, and college scholarships will be announced, as well as, the senior class valedictorian and salutatorian. The awards from the Tahlequah Masonic Lodge for "Student of Today" and "Teacher of Today" will be announced and art instructors will present several art awards for book illustrations by students in the art classes.

Parents, relatives and interested community members are invited to attend. Reservations can be made by contacting Maxine Campbell, phone: 918-456-0631 or by e-mail: mcampbell@cherokee.org.
