TULSA, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee Nation Tribal Council member Buel Anglen recently joined the Greater Tulsa Commission on Indian Affairs (GTCIA). The GTCIA is a commission that is a liaison between the greater Tulsa area Indian community and mayor Bill LaFortune’s office. Anglen represents Tulsa and Washington Counties on the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith appointed Anglen to the commission.

"Mr. Anglen will be a true asset to the Commission and will represent the Cherokee Nation admirably", Smith said.

"I’m very excited", Anglen said. "I see this as an opportunity to bring the experience of the Tribal Council to the Commission and the mayor’s office."

According to GTCIA bylaws, three or more unexcused absences are enough cause for the Commission to ask that your organization be replaced. The Cherokee Nation’s previous representative had not attended a meeting in several years.

"Evidently the commission was going to remove us (the Cherokee Nation) because of a lack of attendance", Anglen said. "Hopefully I can mend those fences and start contributing positively to the commission."

"I was informed that our last representative was not attending meetings", Smith said. "The commission asked me to appoint another representative, and I know Buel will do a great job."
