TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation will provide employment opportunities for young people beginning this spring."The Supplemental Youth Employment Program is a way to give young people a true work experience", said Larry Ketcher, director of employment and training at Cherokee Nation
Cherokee Nation, Northeastern State University, and local school systems, are just a few of the entities that will employ accepted applicants.
"We have many organizations and businesses that work with us to help place applicants, we have a good working relationship with them", Ketcher said.
Applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age, be a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe, and reside in the Cherokee Nation’s fourteen-county jurisdictional area.
The Cherokee Nation youth employment program applicants must also meet U.S. Department of Labor guidelines. Young people are given opportunities to work in a variety of fields within the Cherokee Nation, the private sector, and non-profit organizations. Accepted applicants will be employed during the months of June and July.
A parent or guardian must accompany applicants 17 years of age or under during the application process. All applications must be delivered in person to the Cherokee Nation Career Services department in Tahlequah or any of the field offices in the 14 county service areas. Applications will be accepted from April 7th through May 16th.
Applications may be picked up in Tahlequah, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. Applications may be picked up from area offices at the following times: Bartlesville 918-256-8595 1st & 3rd Monday of every month, Catoosa 918-266-5626 on Tuesdays only, Jay 918-253-3243 daily, Miami 918-256-8595 4th Wednesday of every month, Muskogee 918-687-0201 (ext.220) 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month after noon, Pryor 918-824-1725 daily, Sallisaw 918-76-0416 daily, Stilwell 918-696-3124 daily, Vinita (918) 256-8595 daily, Warner 918-463-3694 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month before noon.
