Tahlequah, Oklahoma - Tracing family history can be as frustrating as it can be exciting. Without the proper resources and tools one may find it difficult to locate pieces of family history. On the first Saturday of every month Genealogist Gene Norris will educate visitors to the Cherokee Heritage Center of the many resources available for tracking family history.
Norris has more than 20 years experience in genealogy research and has written many articles in such genealogical journals as "Carroll County Historical and Genealogical Quarterly," "The Upper Cumberland," and "Going Snake Messenger."
The classes have been designed as informal question and answer sessions in which students can take advantage of the vast experience Norris possess in the field of genealogy. He will direct participants on beginning their research, the many resources at their disposal and the places to obtain additional information. Class members will also be given a genealogy packet containing information discussed in class, ancestry charts and different family forms needed to make tracing family history easier.
These once-a-month classes are open to anyone age 10 and older. Fees for students 14 and under are $5 and $10 for students 15 and older. Pre-registration is not required and payment can be made at the time of the class. Participants should bring paper and a pencil.
