The Cherokee Nation’s highest court, the Judicial Appeals Tribunal, issued a ruling on cases JAT 03-08 and 03-09, which appealed the Cherokee Nation General Election results and requested a new election.

Seven candidates sued the Cherokee Nation Election Commission over alleged irregularities. The court dismissed the cases involving the Principal Chief and Deputy Chief races, and upheld the results of the General Election as it pertained to Council candidates.

The court ordered the Cherokee Nation Election Commission to certify the results of the election.
