Tahlequah, Oklahoma - The chance to purchase a prized piece of art from the 32nd Annual Trail of Tears art show is coming to an end soon. Sunday, June 22, will be the last day of the art show and sale which boasts works from more than 175 artists who competed for more than $11,000 in prize money. All works remaining from this prestigious collection can be purchased at the Cherokee Heritage Center just three miles south of Tahlequah.
Artists competed in the following nine categories: Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Miniatures, Pottery, Basketry, Beadwork, Textiles, and Jewelry.
Fred Trompler won the Grand Award for his painting, Spirit Prayer. Other category winners include the following: Martha Berry for beadwork with Double Crossed, Talmadge Davis for painting Kituwa Man, Wynona Dreadfulwater for textiles with Autumn, Shirley Willis for jewelry with Baby’s First Ride, Jane Osti for pottery with Cherokee Water Scroll, Lena Blackbird for basketry with Grandmother’s Legacy, Sam Watts-Kidd for graphics with Because That Is the Way It Is Always, Todd Cloe for sulpture with Infinite Cycle of Life and Bob Thomas for miniature/painting with Elk Dreamer, Song of the Forest.
