TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Heritage Center will hold a silent auction during its Special Benefit Opening of the "Trail of Tears" drama. The auction will feature many items from retailers, organizations and people across the state. These items include pottery by Richard Zane Smith, worth an estimated $5,000, a weekend stay in Leadville, CO, including lift tickets and a signed book, The Last Wilderness from Robert Redford.The annual SBO sets the tone for the drama season with sophistication and elegance as numerous community leaders and organizations lend their support to this outstanding theater venue. This year’s attendees will be presented with a reception of Oklahoma-made wines and cheeses while being given the opportunity to bid on the numerous items in the silent auction. Following the reception, guests will make their way to the courtyard in Adams Corner for an elegant dinner provided by the Restaurant of the Cherokees before they are captivated by the opening performance of the "Trail of Tears" drama.
The drama tells story of the round-up, confinement and removal of the Cherokee people. Written and directed by playwright Joe Sears of "Greater Tuna" fame, the "Trail of Tears" is a must-see event for thousands of spectators across the state, nation and world.
The SBO takes place June 21 on the grounds of the Cherokee Heritage Center. The evenings festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and the drama begins at 8 p.m.
