TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The 51st Cherokee National Holiday 5K Run will be held Saturday, August 30, on the east side of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, located 3 ½ miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the run will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 5K Cherokee National Holiday run is a United States of America Track and Field (USATF) certified and sanctioned event.
"This event is expected to draw its largest field ever", said Sherry Parks, run coordinator. "The event also includes a one-mile Fun Run."
The pre-registration entry fee for the 5K and Fun Run is $15. Participants can pre-register through Friday, August 22. Race day entry fee is $18. The Cherokee Nation will give commemorative edition T-shirts to the first 350 entries.
The Cherokee Nation will award trophies to the overall male and female finishers in the 5K run and olympic style medals to each age group in the 5K run.
The Holiday Run is held as part of the Cherokee National Holiday that is celebrated every over Labor Day weekend. The theme of this year’s celebration is "Cherokee Communities: the Strength of our Nation". The annual Holiday commemorates the signing of the Cherokee National Constitution of September 6, 1839.
