TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Holiday activities will include a car show and cruise on Saturday, August 30. The car show will be held on the east grounds of the Cherokee Nation complex, located 3 miles south of Tahlequah on Hwy. 62. Pre-registration for the car show will be accepted before August 1, with an entry fee of $10. Registration for the car show is August 30 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is a $15 entry fee after August 1. The first 100 entries receive a dash plaque and goody bag. First and second place trophies are presented for each class. There are 36 category classes and special prizes are given in eight categories. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day."This is the second year of the car show", said Justin Godwin, Cherokee National Holiday car show coordinator. "We have expanded the classes this year and hope to beat our attendance from last year of 148 car entries. Also, that night there will be a cruise in downtown Tahlequah. Last year, spectators had lawn chairs set out along side of the road and the expressions of enjoyment on the children faces made me feel good. We hope to add a few more activities each year so that we can give a little something back to Tahlequah."
The Saturday night cruise is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and will be held in downtown Tahlequah. Cruise line-up will be at Cherokee Nation Industries located at the corner of Choctaw and Water street at 7:30 p.m. A police escort will began at 8 p.m. All visitors are encouraged to attend, and watch the cars take off.
"Organizers expect more than 100,000 people to attend the 51st Cherokee National Holiday", Godwin said, "We’re hoping that the car show activities will add variety to the number of activities already offered."
