KENWOOD, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Nation will host a summer youth fitness camp for Cherokee children in 4th to 6th grades July 14-18."This is the thirteenth year that Healthy Nation has offered the Summer Youth Fitness Camps", said Margie Burkhart, a health educator in Cherokee Nation’s Healthy Nation program. "The camps this year will focus on diabetes prevention through exercise and healthy lifestyles."
The schedule for the day camp is 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and will be held at Kenwood Community Building.
"Summer youth fitness camps offer area youth organized activities, direction and fun", Burkhart said. "The youngsters will participate in physical activity and listen to health information."
Some of the physical activities offered are stickball, kickboxing, aerobics, arts and crafts, educational classes and field trips.
"In addition to learning opportunities, camp teaches children the benefits of community, inspires independence, and promotes self-confidence", Burkhart said.
