TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee National Holiday Gospel Singing will be held west of the Cherokee Nation tribal complex at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 29 and noon on Saturday, August 30, 2003.
This event, which features some of Oklahoma’s most talented gospel singers, includes Cherokee singing. Norman Carey and the Visionarys will emcee the event and serve as the host group for the event.
Featured groups Friday night are the Johnson Ross family of Van Buren, Arkansas, the Shell family of Stilwell, Okla., By His Grace of Salina, Oklahoma, Sonya Hartness of Peggs, Okla., Crossroads of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and others.
The Visionarys will begin the afternoon program at noon on Saturday and will continue all afternoon with different musicians and gospel groups. Group singing will begin at 5 p.m. Groups scheduled are the Cherokee Choir, Crossroads and Leslye Martin of Tahlequah, the Ruckman Family of Muldrow, Oklahoma, Generations of Braggs, Oklahoma, Lively Stones of Seminole, Oklahoma and Kisers of Muskogee, Oklahoma.
"If you are a fan of gospel music, you will not want to miss this event, which offers a variety of gospel groups", said Janie Carey, event coordinator for the Cherokee National Holiday gospel singing. "Each group has their own unique sound."
