Tahlequah, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Heritage Center will hold its last Usdi Fest of the summer Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Usdi (oo-sti) is the Cherokee word for little or baby, accordingly this festival will feature children’s activities, but all ages are welcome to attend.The festival is a celebration of Cherokee culture. Activities will include blowgun shooting, basket weaving, Cherokee language exercises, turban tying and other culturally specific activities.
Stickball, a long-time Cherokee game, will be played, and period style clothing will be available for children to try on. Cherokee stories will be told, and writing in the Cherokee syllabary, as well as speak the language.
Admission to Usdi Fest is free but regular admission will be charged for the museum and village entrance.
This is the last children’s festival of the summer offered by the Cherokee Heritage Center. For more information contact Tonia Weavel, 918-456-6007 (ext.31).
