Auditions Set For Trail of Tears Drama

Tahlequah, Oklahoma - February 22 and 23 are audition dates for the Trail of Tears drama, which will return in 2003 with playwright Joe Sears directing.

Auditions will be held at the NSU Playhouse, on Saturday, February 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for singers, actors, walk-ons, and crew. Auditions for dancers will be held from 2-5 p.m. Auditions will continue on Sunday, February 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all positions. All ages and types are welcome. Actors trying out for speaking roles should bring a prepared audition piece. For those who have worked with director Joe Sears before, an interview is all that is required. Singers should have a song prepared to sing for the musical director, Kimmie Rhodes. An accompanist and tape player will be provided. Dancers should be prepared to dance for choreographer, Jo Ann Schatz. Dancers interested in a speaking role should come prepared to audition for the director as well.

Those interested in non-speaking roles will not be required to audition, but will be interviewed by the director. The technical crew will interview with the director. Résumés will not be required. Named "One of the Top 100 Events in North America" by the American Bus Association, the drama attracts thousands of tourists each summer to Tahlequah. This year, the script has been re-worked and will offer audiences a fresh look at the drama.

The Trail of Tears drama will be performed at the Tsa La Gi Amphitheater at the Cherokee Heritage Center running June 21 through August 31 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

There will be a Children's Theater Summer Institute held in conjunction with the drama. These classes will range from beginning acting and stage movement to stunts and storytelling. Those interested an also contact Rachel at the Cherokee Heritage Center.
