Every year the OSAA has a competition to determine the state champion and rookie champion.
"This is a great honor for me," Daugherty said. "I was able to meet and consult with hall of fame auctioneers, world champion auctioneers and compete against some of the best up and coming bid callers in Oklahoma."
The rookie competition is open to auctioneers who graduated from auctioneers school within one year or less. Daugherty graduated in June 2002, from what many consider the top auctioneers school in the country, the Missouri Auction School in St. Louis.
"The school is ten days of intense training in auctioneering techniques and classroom instruction on how to run the day to day business of an auction company." Daugherty said. "The instructors are successful auctioneers from across the country representing different areas of the auction business like antique, heavy equipment, livestock, real estate; it was a great experience."
Daugherty currently resides in Peggs, Okla., but is originally from Vinita, Okla.
"My hometown has produced some incredible auctioneers like world champion Greg Highsmith and his son Jesse, J.B. Robinson and his son J.B. Jr." Daugherty said. "They are greatly respected throughout the community and by their peers. If I can live up to that, then I will have done well."
