TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center will present a spring lecture series with a local flavor beginning in February.The subject of the first lecture presented on February 9 will be Bagley High School. Many early residents of Tahlequah completed their entire education, from elementary to college, at Bagley. Former student Dolly Burr, recounts her memories of this special Tahlequah School.
Memories of Tahlequah will be presented on February 23. Long time resident Bill Hinds will share his hometown memories.
On March 8, Sequoyah Training School will be the lecture series topic. Marion Hagerstrand, the daughter of Jack Brown, former Sequoyah Training School superintendent, recalls her days at the school.
The final lecture of the spring series will be presented on April 13, and the topic will be the Murrell and Ross Families. Murrell Home curator Shirley Pettengill discusses the two families most associated with this ante-bellum home.
Each lecture will be held in the Cherokee Heritage Center atrium and will begin at 2:00 p.m. The lectures are free to the public.
