EDMOND, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation was one of six employers in the state to recently receive an award for helping to keep their employees healthy. This Award of Excellence certifies the Cherokee Nation as an Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business."We were quite surprised to get the honor as an Oklahoma healthy business," said Wynema Bush, Cherokee Nation wellness coordinator. "We try to incorporate both fun and health into our wellness program to assure employees will participate. I think the employees really appreciate our effort to offer activities they enjoy."
The award is given to businesses that are working to improve the health of Oklahomans by providing positive health and wellness opportunities for its employees. The Cherokee Nation currently offers employees health incentives such as discounted fitness memberships, walking trail, fitness center, health and nutrition video library, and various sports leagues throughout the year.
"You just would not believe the events offered by this program to assist their employees in their healthy efforts and I'm told they had many other events than our form indicated," said Julie Knutson, president of the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals, which presents the awards.
