The Nicut road, which is 5.74 miles long, was completed at an estimated construction cost of $2,462,903. The road provides direct access to Hwy. 59 and serves the Nicut and Bell communities.
"We’re proud of the Nicut road projects", said Danny Braden, Adair County commissioner. "The Cherokee Nation did a super job, we hope to continue working together for many more years, it benefits everyone."
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, Deputy Chief Joe Grayson, Jr., District 2 Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilmember Jackie Bob Martin, Dolores Martin, County Commissioner Danny Braden and County Commissioner Sam Chandler attended the dedication ceremony. Also in attendance were members of the Cherokee Nation Roads Program and several families who reside near Nicut Road.
"It’s one of the better roads that have been built in that area. It was a much needed job as the old road was very rough", said Jackie Bob Martin, Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilmember. "I have heard a lot of positive comments from the residents."
The Cherokee Nation has spent more than $32 million on roads in northeastern Oklahoma over the past 11 years and has another $60 million in progress. Since 1995, Cherokee Nation Roads Program has overseen the completion of thirteen roads.
