TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center is seeking volunteers to act as genealogy hosts in the Genealogy Library of the Cherokee Heritage Center. Genealogy hosts will help museum visitors with the general aspects of locating Cherokee ancestry.Genealogy is a very popular service offered at the Cherokee Heritage Center. The genealogy library contains rolls, microfilm and books designed to aid in searching for Cherokee family roots. Duties may include going over a check list with visitors to establish whether or not ancestors lived in the Cherokee Nation and obtaining information from visitors such as names, dates and places in order to direct visitors to the proper rolls.
Volunteers do not need genealogical experience. The Cherokee Heritage Center staff will be glad to train volunteers in the simple steps to guiding the public through the genealogy library.
Volunteers may set up a schedule to their specifications. The genealogy library is available to visitors during the Cherokee Heritage Center museum hours, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With volunteers' help, the library can also be made available on Saturdays and Sundays.
For more information, contact the volunteer program manager, by phone: 918-918-456-6007 or by e-mail: info@CherokeeHeritage.org.
