TAHLEQUAH, OK - Oklahoma Indian Legal Services, Inc. (OILS) will be at Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex on Thursday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, providing a community education clinic.

OILS staff attorneys Josie Cashner and Stephanie Hudson will be on hand for an informal presentation titled 'Bankruptcy, Chapter 7, Collection and Predatory Lending', followed by questions and answers. Community members can participate in two sessions, with the morning session starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For further information regarding this presentation you may call OILS at 1 (800) 658-1497. The clinic will be held at the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex on Hwy 62 south of Tahlequah.

OILS is a nonprofit legal aid organization providing legal services to low-income Native Americans residing in Oklahoma with their legal issue also originating in Oklahoma. OILS represents Indian people in civil proceedings that result directly from the person’s Indian status. OILS also works to inform the Indian population in Oklahoma by providing community education to Native American tribes and groups.

OILS is funded by the Legal Services Corporation in Washington, D.C. The Legal Services Corporation is a nonprofit organization established by Congress to provide legal assistance to indigent people.

OILS concentrates on cases that are likely to have a significant positive impact on the Indian population as a whole with emphasis on five general areas: (1) Indian Child Welfare; (2) Housing; (3) Natural Resources; (4) Tribal Sovereignty; and (5) Individual Rights. You must be low income to be eligible for services. OILS does not handle criminal cases.
