MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee Nation recently opened their new location of the Muskogee Health Center to a large crowd.

"I'm excited about healthcare in Muskogee," said Cherokee Nation District 4 Tribal council member, Don Garvin. "I would just like to commend the staff of the clinic for their hard work and dedication to this project."

"We doubled our square footage which gives us more room to see more patients," said Rhonda Cochran, senior clinic administrator of the Muskogee clinic.

The Muskogee Health Center currently serves only women and children. Programs offered are Women Infants and Children (WIC), behavioral health, human services, public health and a licensed dietician.

"Something new we will now be able to offer will be assistance through programs offered through Human Services," said Cochran.

New services will include having members of both the Cherokee Nation Youth Family Services, as well as the Cherokee Nation childcare subsidy program staff on hand once a week for applications and questions explained Cochran.

"We are going to take advantage of this new location to do better things for the Cherokee people's healthcare," Garvin said.

"We are one of the lowest funded areas per capita in all of the Indian health area. Now is the time to let our voices be heard and to lie out a path to get more resources for better healthcare facilities such as this one," said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Previously located at 212 South 38th Street in Muskogee, the clinic has re-located to 1805 North York Street. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 918-687-0201.
