"I'm glad it's finally getting started," said Leona Denny, member of the Greasy community. "This is just what we were wanting for our senior citizens and our young people."
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith spoke to the crowd about the Cherokee Nation's view on communities.
"We lay out principles at the tribe, and one of them is to help build strong communities," Smith said. "We help the community by providing the materials and they build the building themselves."
"For so many years we just ran into some brick walls trying to get help getting a community building," said Charlie Shell, president of the Greasy Community Fellowship Organization. "There are so many to thank, the Chief, the Council, and everyone for making it possible."
