TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service has arrested James Albert “Jamie” Clinton, a Cherokee Nation employee, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes. Clinton, who has been given his notice of termination, formerly managed the Cherokee Nation Landfill in Adair County.Marshals arrested Clinton, 36, of Fort Gibson, on the authority of a tribal arrest warrant for solicitation of a bribe. Cherokee Nation District Court Judge Bart Fite set Clinton’s bond at $10,000, and Clinton is currently being held at the Muskogee County Jail. Fite also issued a restraining order prohibiting Clinton from entering or accessing Cherokee Nation property unless accompanied by a Cherokee Nation Marshal.
Marshals served warrants at Cherokee Nation offices where Clinton had worked. The Cherokee Nation Landfill is operating under new management after Clinton’s arrest as the investigation into his conduct continues.
“Our job at the Cherokee Nation is to do our best for the Cherokee people,” said David Roberts, director of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. “When someone uses their position for personal gain, the Marshals will put a stop to it.”
