TAHLEQUAH, OK - Two Cherokee Nation employees were recently honored for their outstanding work at the Oklahoma Society of Environmental Health Professionals annual conference in Stillwater, OK.

Sheila Sevenstar, environmental specialist for the Cherokee Nation, was elected by unanimous ballot to serve as President Elect for the Oklahoma Society of Environmental Health Professionals. Sevenstar has worked for the Cherokee Nation for eight years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Arkansas.
Jason White received the Loyd Plummill Award, also known as the Environmental Specialist of the Year award. White has worked for the Cherokee Nation for six years. He has a Master's degree in Industrial Management and Bachelor's degrees in environmental management and safety management from Northeastern State University. He also serves on the National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology Superfund Committee.
"Not only do these two help our tribe, but they also help other tribes regionally and nationally," said Dwayne Beavers, director of the Cherokee Nation Office of Environmental Services.
"The Cherokee Nation has always been a guardian of our environment and our natural resources," said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "The honors and awards Shelia and Jason earned are proof that the Cherokee Nation continues to be dedicated to preserving a clean environment."
